Avatar Tutorial
In this tut I'll be teaching you how to make the below avatar from a simple anime screencap in Photoshop. I've provided instructions ands screens so even if you're a begginer, you'll be fine. ^^ Right. So the first thing we'll do is take our image.
Kinda blurry, and the colors aren't that great. We'll fix that easy! Find sharpen:
..And use it as many times as you like. I only used it once for this image.
Now to make the colors better, I'll duplicate my image
and set the new layer to "Soft Light".
Finished!
To make it the right size, 100px by 100px. Take the crop tool and set the size like shown.
And we have our base! And moving on to the actual avatar making part. :P
Take your base, and put a nice light texture on top like this one. I;ve set mine to "Screen" at 100% opacity.
Icon so far.
Now I'll take another texture to make it more interesting and put it overtop set on "Soft Light" opacity 100%.

I'm going to use a gradient now just to make the colors pop more.

Hm. Those colors don't exactly go great do they? Not a problem!
It's a little bit greener now, and I like it. ^^
Except where did our great blue texture go? It's hidden underneath the gradient! just move it up, and voila!
Much better.
It kinda looks underwater now, doesn't it? To make it seem more like that, I've added a new water texture on "Screen" at 50% opacity.

Almost done. Add a nice little border. (I'll prbably make a dotted line tutorial later if anyone needs it)
And the text. These were my settings.
Since that's a little boring, I added some tiny text underneath with the same settings, only size 3.
And the finished icon!
